Xbox has been leading the charge on the marketing for their next-gen efforts with the reveal of the Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, PlayStation may be trailing far behind as they only recently revealed the official controller for the PS5, the DualSense. However, new rumours have surfaced to suggest that Xbox plans to host a new event in May that could shed more light on their next-gen plans, including the possible reveal of the budget-friendly Lockhart variant console and new games including Halo Infinite and the Fable reboot.

Windows Central theorizes that with E3 2020 canceled, Xbox has some room to plan out a more effective marketing strategy that potentially involves breaking the news of the Lockhart console, a 4TF “entry-point” budget variant of the Anaconda (which we know as the Xbox Series X) as early as an event in May. Windows Central notes that a few Xbox YouTubers with good track records have said that the gaming giant is planning to host this May event not only to shed some light on the Lockhart, but also dive into a few next-gen games as well, which includes Halo Infinite and a possible Fable reboot under Playground Games.
However, none of this is set in stone and we’ll have to take this information with a grain of salt. The likelihood of Xbox (and Sony) doing events in May is high, though, and if the console releases are still on track for the end of the year, then we should expect full-blown next-gen reveals soon. It’s hard to say whether PlayStation will hold out until after the release of Ghost of Tsushima and the now indefinitely delayed The Last of Us: Part II (which begs the question, what’s Sony’s marketing strategy?), Xbox seems content with charging forward on next-gen at this stage. We’ll await official confirmation from Microsoft.
