The Witcher had a pretty successful launch on Netflix in December, quickly climbing up the ladder to become the hottest new fantasy show on the market. The hype train is steadily leading towards the inevitable release of season 2 in 2021, but while we wait an extra year or two, Netflix already has plans to give us our Witcher fix. The streaming service recently announced that they would be producing a new animated film set in The Witcher universe, titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
In a recent tweet by Netflix, they confirmed the existence of an anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, currently in the works. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich along with writer Beau DeMayo will be involved in it as well. Interestingly enough, Studio Mir, the studio behind The Legend of Korra animated series, will be handling the film too, so we can expect some great quality animation, at least.
Apart from the story promising to take us back to “a new threat facing the Continent,” we know little to nothing about the plot or characters. If it does feature Geralt of Rivia, voiced by Henry Cavill, it will be cool to see how it fits into the overall narrative and universe of the current show – whether that means being a prequel or sequel to the first season in some way.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is being produced by Netflix.
